TelescopesStudents using telescope
Interested in observing the sky? Considering the purchase of a telescope? This outreach lesson focuses on practical observation techniques from your own backyard. Star maps are used to introduce students to observing. The planetarium instructor then discusses binoculars and telescopes and how they work. The pros and cons of purchasing a telescope are also discussed. Finally, students move outdoors to observe objects in the neighborhood using both binoculars and a telescope (provided by the planetarium).

This lesson is designed for grades 2-8.  Approximately 45 minutes are needed to complete the lesson.

We encourage you to visit the Planetarium as a great way to end your unit!
