THE CORNER TEAROOM

The Culinary Arts classes at Craigmont High School explore careers in the food industry and develop skills in a simulated industry setting. Quality cooking serving, safety, sanitation, management, and FCCLA activities are included. Practical experience is gained through the operation of the Corner Tearoom. The Tearoom gives students an opporrtunity to serve teachers, students, business leaders and the community at large. The experiences the students receive encourage many of them to choose a career in the Culinary Arts.

The Tearoom has served many important dignitaries from around the world. Many area groups come to eat, especially Senior Citizens, from the community. The Tearoom has been featured on one of the local television stations as well as several articles in the Commercial Appeal. The FCCLA Club which is an integral part of the class, promotes leadership and community service. Each year the club participates in several community service projects such as this year's Breast Cancer Awareness. In 1992, the club was honored for their work with senior citizens by receiving the "Nutrasweet Giving It 100%" Award for Community Service for the State of Tennessee.

The instuctor for Culinary Arts and manager of the Corner Tearoom and FCCLA sponsor was Betty Hall until 2004-2005.
