There were 1,459 Spanish I students representing 42 schools in the state of Tennessee participating in last year's competition.

The Spanish Club is open to new members during the months of August and September each year. Students must be currently enrolled in Honors Spanish I, II, III or IV or in Spanish II. They must maintain passing grades and satisfactory conduct. Dues are $3.00 for the year.
Spanish Club members go out to eat at local Mexican restaurants several times a year. During the 2002-2003 school year, students attended a performance of the Boston Flamenco Ballet at the New Daisy Theater. Spanish Club members also donate to MIFA each year as a means of reaching out to the community. The Spanish Club is a very active club on campus.
A scholarship is given to a worthy senior enrolled in Honors Spanish III-IV. Qualifications include the following: maintaining an A average in Spanish, active in the Spanish Club and in other campus organizations, exemplary conduct, expressing a desire to continue the study of a foreign language at the university level.
The Spanish Club sponsors are Paul Viera, Alicia Buckner, and Suzanne Morgan.
