The Solar SystemSolar System Activity Photo

The Solar System Outreach Lesson is designed to incorporate both math and science skills. The lesson begins with a discussion of the components of the solar system. Students build a model of the solar system by measuring the relative sizes of the planets using cheerios and construction paper.

Then to complete the model, depending on the age and skill of the students, they either line up the planets in order, or they actually measure the relative distance of each planet from the Sun.

This lesson is designed for grades 2-6.  Approximately 45 minutes to an hour is needed to complete the lesson. All materials are provided by the planetarium except glue and pencils.

We encourage you to visit the Planetarium as a great way to end your unit!
