Current Planetarium programs are described below. All shows are correlated with the Tennessee Science Content Standards (TSCS). Several shows have "Study Guides" that may be downloaded from this site. See individual shows below for details. Plan Your Visit Now!

Animated Winter Holiday StarTwo special Holiday Shows, The Star of Bethlehem  and Torton the Elf Who Cared are part of the December programing.

French Language Astronomy Show is a multimedia star show which gives French students a very different context in which to practice their language skills. First year students of French can appreciate the program if they study the script before viewing the star show. Second year students will need only a list of astronomy related vocabulary words. Third year students should not need any special advance preparation. Contact the planetarium staff to schedule this show and for a copy of the script. To hear an excerpt of the show, click here.

Star Finding is a live program designed for grades 3 and up. It is correlated to TSCS 7.0, Earth and Its Place in the Universe. Students learn about constellations by creating their own dipper shapes in the sky. Students are then lead in a discussion of historical and practical uses of constellations. Finally, students learn how to use a star map to locate objects visible from their own backyards. Throughout the program, participants observe and locate heavenly bodies in the current night sky including constellations, planets, and the moon. This program can be customized for scouts trying to earn merit badges.

Our Place in Space is a program designed for primary grades. It is correlated to TSCS 7.0, Earth and Its Place in the Universe, grade K-1. During the program, students help animal characters solve a crossword puzzle. In the process, students learn why we have day and night, what makes the Sun appear so big, and why the Sun seems to move across the sky. Students invent star pictures, and travel through the solar system and beyond to learn about "our place in space". Study Guide available. Click to download the pdf file (heavy graphics, may take a few minutes to download).

The Secret of the Cardboard Rocket is a program for primary and intermediate Animated Rocket image grades and correlated to TSCS 7.0, Earth and Its Place in the Universe, grades 2-5. Two very imaginative children build a rocket from a large cardboard box and then with the help of a talking library book explore the solar system. They travel into the stormy clouds of Jupiter and fly through the rings of Saturn. They land on Venus, our Moon, Mars, and Pluto, and fly past Mercury, Uranus, and Neptune. This is an exciting, interactive program for students. Study Guide available. Click to download the pdf file (heavy graphics, may take a few minutes to download).

Solar System Adventure Tour is a program for intermediate and middle school grades and correlated to TSSCS 7.0, Earth and Its Place in the Universe, grades 5-8. As members of the crew of a space ship traveling through space, students obtain information about planets, moons and other parts of our solar system. The mission requires crew members (students) to use science and mathematics problem-solving skills to help make decisions which ultimately determine the fate of the mission and the crew.

Neil Armstrong Moonwalk Photo Lunar Odyssey has something for everyone. It is correlated to TSCS 7.0, Earth and Its Place in the Universe, grades 3-12. In this elaborate multimedia presentation, we go back in time looking at Moon mythology as well as historical events leading up to space travel. We pay tribute to the first Moon landing missions and to rocket pioneers who made space exploration possible. Then, as space travelers, we revisit the Moon in the future as tourists. See what hotel accommodations on the Moon might be like in one sixth of Earth's gravity. Learn the origin of the Moon and explore cultural legends, too. Study Guide available. Click to download the pdf file (heavy graphics, may take a few minutes to download).
