These program adopters, along with the computer division of Northwest Airlines, have become involved in the Craigmont ASSERT program. ASSERT (Adopters Assisting Students with Employment Related Training) gives Craigmont students opportunities to interact with persons from the world of work and to relate their classroom training to what is happening in realistic work situations.

Activities:

Participation in this program has given our students the opportunity to have experiences that Craigmont could not have offered without the involvement of concerned members of the community.

	Provided Automated Weather Station hardware, software, and technical support to provide 24-hour real-time weather monitoring from Craigmont on the Internet.
	Awarded City Beautiful trophy
	Placed students in positions after graduation
	Provided financial assistance
	Assisted with fund-raising activities

Northwest/KLM Airlines

	Played in fund-raising basketball games.
	Provided judges for school contests.
	Assisted with travel arrangements for student trips.
	Provided classroom speakers, including international guests.
	Helped establish an internet connection with a school in Amsterdam, Holland.

Opera Memphis

Opera Memphis has been a longtime partner with Craigmont. For many years, Craigmont has donated rehearsal space for Opera Memphis. In exchange, Craigmont students have appeared in Opera Memphis productions as chorus members or supernumeraries, as assistant lighting designers, or as audience members at each dress rehearsal. In the 1992-93 school year, Opera Memphis and Craigmont won a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to write and produce an original student opera entitled The Final Dragon. The concept of linking the expertise of a professional company with a student theatrical company, was quickly imitated by companies around the country. In her October, 1995 visit to Craigmont National Endowment for the Arts chairman, Jane Alexander said of the partnership, "I have never seen anything like this!" Visit the Opera Memphis web-site. PARTNERS

Computer Support Services Corporation

Each year the Microcomputer Information Systems program benefits from our partnership with CSSC. The corporation provides guest speakers, technical support for networking and computer applications, and since 1997 CSSC has made an annual donation of a complete computer system for use in the classroom. CSSC also serves in an advisory capacity for our Business Professionals of America competitive events planning and preparation.

In addition, CSSC is providing funding on an annual basis for the school's web server space and domain registration as www.craigmont.org. Plans are to also begin an internship program to provide students with realistic exposure to computer support job requirements.

WKNO-FM Stations

The partnership of Craigmont and the WKNO-FM Stations was established in May, 1995, to integrate music into the Honors English 8 curriculum. Projects have included two outreach visits: Grammy-nominated violinist Gil Shaham with pianist Orli Shaham, and the American Chamber Players. In addition, the partnership has built a compact disc library of nearly sixty recordings. WKNO-FM's music director, Michael Krall, has been a guest in the classroom. In March 1996, the program won a "Goals 2000" grant from the State of Tennessee. A handbook chronicling this partnership's outreach projects was presented at the 1996 Association of Music Personnel in Public Radio conference.
